Our House

Families staying at Ronald McDonald House of Jacksonville enjoy private and secure accommodations, nutritious meals prepared by our volunteers, access to technology, indoor and outdoor play areas, a fully stocked pantry, transportation to local hospitals and the comfort and affection of REED, our Facility Dog.

Ronald McDonald Family Room at Wolfson Children’s Hospital

The Ronald McDonald Family Room at Wolfson Children’s Hospital is the second core program of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Jacksonville. The Ronald McDonald Family Room at Wolfson Children’s Hospital is located outside of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, and hosts more than 25,000 visitors each year from the Jacksonville community. In the Ronald McDonald Family Room, visitors of Wolfson patients find a quiet place of respite with snacks, coffee and the listening ear of volunteers, or another family who may be in a similar situation.

Our History

Our first Ronald McDonald House on Jefferson Street had 10 bedrooms where staff and volunteers provided compassionate care for families who needed lodging and support services. However, it was soon realized that additional space would be needed to accommodate the many families traveling to our community for medical treatment.

In 2001, our chapter built a new 30-bedroom House on Children’s Way in the San Marco area. The 42,000 square ft. House not only has individual bedrooms for each family, but also a large kitchen and dining room, family and play rooms, laundry rooms, computer rooms and courtyard with playground for children to enjoy. In addition to our services, our House provides a sense of community and a natural support system for our families.

In 2016, we grew the House that Love Built into a 53-bedroom, 65,000 square ft. House in hopes of never having to turn away a family in need. The Ronald McDonald House of Jacksonville is currently caring for more than 1,200 families annually. As Jacksonville grows as a premier regional destination for pediatric healthcare so does the demand for our services. We are committed to supporting families in their time of need and look to our future with an eye on expanding our home away from home for all children and their families.
