Ronald McDonald House Charities of Jacksonville
Celebrating 28 Years of Providing a Home Away From Home for Children and Their Families
Since 1988 Ronald McDonald House Charities of Jacksonville has provided a “home away from home” for over 33,000 families who utilize Jacksonville’s hospitals and medical facilities for treatment of trauma, premature births, cancer, cardiac conditions and other specialty pediatric diagnoses. Our vision has always been to provide a home community where children and their families embrace life and healing with a sense of hope, enthusiasm, courage and joy. We are a licensed chapter of Ronald McDonald House Charities, the global charity of the McDonald’s Corporation, focused on creating and supporting programs that directly improve the health and well-being of children.
Ronald McDonald House Charities of Jacksonville is comprised of three major programs: the House Program, the Ronald McDonald Family Room at Wolfson Children’s Hospital and the Grants Program. Our House Program provides lodging, a meal program, transportation and compassionate care to parents and siblings during their stay. No house is complete without a dog. Our facility dog, Reed, provides loving therapy and comfort to the families. Our Ronald McDonald Family Room at Wolfson Children’s Hospital is a welcome respite for families visiting their children who are hospitalized. The Ronald McDonald Family Room is staffed by volunteers who offer snacks, smiles and a listening ear. Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Jacksonville gives back to the local First Coast community by offering Community Grants and our goal is to award organizations with a similar mission to support the health and well-being of children and their families. We partner with nonprofit organizations that are making an immediate and positive impact on children within our Jacksonville community.
Our first Ronald McDonald House on Jefferson Street had 10 bedrooms where staff and volunteers provided compassionate care for families who needed lodging and support services. However, it was soon realized that additional space would be needed to accommodate the many families traveling to our community for medical treatment.
In 2001, our chapter built a new 30-bedroom House on Children’s Way in the San Marco area. This beautiful 42,000 square ft. House not only has individual bedrooms for each family, but also a large kitchen and dining room, family and play rooms, laundry rooms, computer rooms and courtyard with playground for children to enjoy. In addition to our services, our House provides a sense of community and a natural support system for our families. The Ronald McDonald House of Jacksonville is currently caring for more than 1,100 families annually. As Jacksonville grows as a premier regional destination for pediatric healthcare so does the demand for our services. We are committed to supporting families in their time of need and look to our future with an eye on expanding our home away from home for all children and their families.
